Building Rohan!

Posted in Adepticon, Terrain on January 30, 2009 by BrentS
One of my many Hobby Commitments this year is to help prepare the Demonstration Game Table for Adepticon.  Last year, we put together a sweet Moria game board.  This year we are hosting demo games featuring the classic Rohan vs Isengard armies.  In sort of a “what if” scenario – Imagine that King Theoden didn’t move the Rohirrim to Helms Deep but decided to stay in Edoras and defend the Golden Hall.

In order to stage this confrontation, we needed a battle field that could be suitable for the fields of Rohan.  The new Ctadel Realm of Battle seem perfect for this.  I purchased one just prior to Christmas and have just now started to work on it.  The stunning (sarcasm noted please) output so far… a big black plastic board:

I wish there was a more exciting update, but nope, that’s it for now.

Terrain Update: Osgiliath

Posted in Adepticon, Terrain, Tournament on January 21, 2009 by BrentS

Last terrain update for today!  We will also be featuring at least two tables worth of terrain that is themed to resemble the ruined city of Osgiliath.  Here’s a sample of the nicest piece I’ve made to date, a ruined bell tower.

This tower was constructed using Hirst Arts blocks and based loosely off the plans for the Bell Tower.  The Hirst Arts blocks were graciously supplied by Castle Kits (http://stores.castlekits.com/StoreFront.bok).  They’ve been a sponsor for Adepticon for the last two years.

I’ve got a half a dozen or so pieces of terrain built from these Hirst Arts blocks.   I’ll post some more when I get them painted up.

Terrain Update: Rohan

Posted in Adepticon, Terrain, Tournament on January 21, 2009 by BrentS

I’ve also been hard at work on some Rohan themed terrain.  This terrain will ultimately serve double duty at Adepticon.  First it will be available for the LOTR tournament(s).  Secondly, we are featuring a Demo table on Sunday.  This terrain will be used as part of the Demo table.

From the description of the Adepticon Brochure:

“Rohan, my Lord, is ready to fall.” Saruman has unleashed his army upon the people of Rohan and only the might of the Rohirrim stand in their way. Join the struggle for the lands of the horse lords and decide the fate of Middle-earth.

All skill levels welcome, armies will be supplied.

Here’s a few pieces of terrain.  Mostly finished, but again, a few fiddly details remain.

Terrain Update: The Shire

Posted in Adepticon, Gathering in the Desert, Terrain, Tournament on January 21, 2009 by BrentS

As part of the Gathering in the Desert tournament in Phoenix.  I told the tournament organizer, that I’d be happy to provide a table’s worth of terrain for our gaming enjoyment.  Since I was already making terrain for Adepticon, I figured this would be double-duty!  I purchased some halfing holes from a fellow hobbiest in the UK.

Here’s some images of the nearly completed pieces.  I say nearly completed as there are a few fiddly details that always have to be completed.  (Note the images are are clickable thumbnails).

I’ve also made some small modular hedge rows for the table and I hope to make two small forest sections.
Hopefully those people that attend the Gathering in the Desert and/or Adepticon will enjoy playing on this themed terrain.
